Cycling Tours to New Destinations on
Roads less travelled
Our company, dpl Consulting, has been organizing bicycle tours for over 20 years – first in British Columbia, then Turkey, Colombia, and now Albania. Our philosophy is simple – to provide a unique cycling opportunity, combined with cultural experiences, in out of the way places, with small groups, at a reasonable cost.
Our tours are designed to offer challenging cycling terrain with sag wagon support, luggage transfers, experienced bilingual guides and mechanical services. Our groups are small with a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 16 participants. Our tours are 12 – 13 days long from evening “Meet and Greet” to breakfast farewell.
We provide rental bikes and encourage cyclists to come prepared to ride the entire route. We have trained mechanics, and on the road bilingual tour leaders to give you support and ensure your safety.
We have a support vehicle to carry luggage and participants when necessary. We provide hotel accommodation, all meals (except lunches on “flex” days) and water and fruit along the way.
We also provide a cycling jersey and detailed booklet outlining each day's ride.
Tour Colombia - as of 2020, we are only offering our Colombian tours for groups. If you have a group of 8 or more and would like a bike adventure in Colombia, we will organize that for you. We specialize in 2 areas - the Coffee Region and the Colombia Highlands. Your trips can be customized within those regions and dates are flexible.
Ride in Colombia - are you ready for the adventure?
We have chosen Colombia for a number of reasons – it has a rich and enduring cycling culture, it provides extra-ordinary outdoor recreational opportunities, and straddling the equator as it does, it has a diversity of landscapes and climates.
For our Coffee Region tour, TourCO will guide you through the streets of Bogota, before embarking on an exploration of the coffee region in the western part of the country. This is an area abundant with fruit, with culture, with music, and of course, with coffee. We will visit a coffee plantation, be entertained by local dancers, and be treated to friendly hospitality.
Our tour to the Boyaca Region will start in Bogota during Ciclovia and continue north through Cundinamarca province to Boyaca, home of Nairo Quintana. This area is also agricultural blended with history. We will visit the altiplano, various historical monuments and have plenty of opportunities to mingle with the locals.
We stay in a mixture of accommodation – from hotels to resorts and be treated to the local cuisine in our hotels and in local restaurants.
Our distances are reasonable for the types of terrain we will be tackling. Our trips are for the avid cyclist who has some experience of challenging terrain, hot climates, and in the case of the Boyaca Region, altitude. Our riding takes place on paved roads in the Coffee Region and a mixture of paved and gravel roads in the Boyaca Region (approximately 10% hard-packed gravel).
Ride in Albania – an emerging tourist destination
Close to both Greece and Italy, Albania has many features which prompted us to offer cycling tours in this area. Relatively unknown, Albania has mountains to rival the Alps and coastline to rival the Riviera and food to rival the Mediterranean diet.
Our tour is focused on the southern half of the country. TourAL starts in Tirana, the capital, and includes a guided walking tour, a hike to a local cave, cycling through agricultural areas and through mountain passes. We visit lakes, farms in the mountains, ancient ruins, UNESCO heritage sites, and much more.
